  1. Aliza,

My father has been gone for exactly one year today. We toasted him with donut holes (his favorite) over dinner last night with the whole family present. Even amidst were so grateful for the promise of heaven.

  2. Today’s devotion is perfect. So many years ago, this was the last time my beloved father was able to get out of bed due to terminal cancer. No matter how many years go by December has always been very emotional to me. He was my best friend and I was only 22 when this happened. Your words today have reminded me that even though I know Jesus is always with me, what you said ” Emmanuel. God is with us” made me smile as I know my dad is in heaven and out of suffering and I love celebrating the birth of Jesus in a couple of days. My father would be proud of me. Thank you for giving me the perfect words to move along and always remember my Holy Spirit is constantly here to help me. Love to all of you at (in)courage who have done so much for me since I found you in March of this year. To me, you are all Angels sent to help those of us that face difficult problems. Betsy Basile

  3. Aliza,

Christmas can be a hard time of year for many. The songs talk about being jolly, having friends & family around. Truth is many people don’t have any family. This year in Upper E. TN is made a bit harder since Helene hit. Some people lost everything. NC is worse many still have no housing. The one good thing is that Emmanuel is with us always. Matthew West’s song Happy Day After Christmas says it all: Here comes the letdown Christmas is over Here comes the meltdown, there goes the cheer
But before we have a breakdown, let us remember The light of the world is still here
Happy day after Christmas And merry rest of the year Even when Christmas is over The light of the world is still here
    The light of the world
Come January I’m ready for summer The Super Bowl’s over and I’ll settle for spring
Sometimes we all need a change in the weather But it won’t change the reason we sing
Happy day after Christmas And merry rest of the year Even when Christmas is over The light of the world is still here
The light of the world The light of the world The light of the world
So take down the stockings, take back the sweaters Take down the lights and the star and the tree
But don’t let this world take your joy after Christmas Take joy to the world and just sing
Happy day after Christmas And merry rest of the year Even when Christmas is over The light of the world is still here
The light of the world is still here The light of the world The light of the world The light of the world The light of the world
The light of the world The light of the world The light of the world.

    Blessings 🙂

    • Dear Beth…My name is Betsy and I read your comment. Just want you to know that it touched my heart, as I am alone with nobody to celebrate with, but we can celebrate the birth of Jesus. Church is important today and I love the Christmas Eve Service. It helps me to remember that I do have people that care about me. I am so sorry about what all of you went through when Helene hit and so many people lost so many things including their homes and all of their belongings. I have to say that I can relate to that in a different way. My husband has the violent type of dementia and tried to kill me. I had to sell our house of 40 years as we both needed money. We are both in different facilities, but neither my husband or my 1 child (a 54 year old son) blame me for all of this. My son has dismissed me as his mother and told me that I can never see or speak to my 1 grandson ever again Then he hung up on me. So I have lost everything as I lived in a big house moving to a 1 bedroom apartment. $1000 of dollars of my “Things” were donated to different Thrift stores. So much of so many things I loved for years — Gone. I live in PA and I will pray that you and all the people in the South can get through this difficult season of their lives, but as you said. On 12/25, that light will shine and shine brightly and will give us the hope we sorely need. Beth..I wish you a wonderful Christmas and New Year and we just have to continue to pray and tell the Lord what is happening to us. Hope it is all right that I wrote to you. Your friend………..Betsy Basile

  4. Thank you for this delicious and simple recipe. I was responsible for bringing dessert for Christmas Day dinner and I brought this. It was a huge hit! None left : )
