But in my distress I cried out to the Lord;
yes, I prayed to my God for help.
He heard me from his sanctuary;
my cry to him reached his ears.
Psalm 18:6 NLT
God’s people have been a people who cry out. When the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians, they cried out for deliverance. During the reign of the judges, the people cried out when things turned for the worse. King David cried out in his depression, in anguish, and in repentance. Hannah cried out for a son, the prophets cried out for their people to turn from their own ways back to God, the bleeding woman cried out silently as she touched the hem of Jesus’s robe. And even Jesus cried out with His last breath on the cross.
We come from that line of people, and crying out together is our inheritance. We pray as our hearts ache for strained relationships, as we struggle in long seasons of darkness and sadness, as we sit in loneliness, as we work through resentment and bitterness, and as our tears stream down our faces for all the unspoken pains and longings in our hearts and in those around us.
Here at (in)courage one of our greatest privileges is turning to God together in prayer. Please leave a prayer request in the comments and then pray for the person who commented before you. Let’s experience the power of prayer as we pray for and with one another.
Ruth Mills says
My husband & I have the challenge & great blessing of teaching the 4-5th grade Sunday school class each Sunday. This morning I will be “on my own” as hubs is fighting a bad cold. Yes I’d appreciate prayers that the kiddos will be attentive & engaged yet praise God I am in the position of really not being on my own as God Himself is with me! Always true but I get a tangible lesson of the truth of it this morning. Thank You Lord for Your presence! May you each have tangible lessons of His mercy & grace today as well! Blessings (((0)))
Rebekah says
Jesus, be especially near Ruth and her students this morning. Speak to each of them as only You can. Fill her classroom with Your Spirit and may love, peace, grace, and forgiveness flow through each one present.
Ruth Mills says
A follow up on how God specifically showed up in our class today. We were playing a review game over the last quarter of lessons Exodus thru Ruth. One space on the game board asked the connection between the Passover lamb & Jesus. 2 players in a row landed on that space & succinctly explained the blood of a perfect lamb foreshadowed the blood of The Perfect Lamb of God. Third child also landed on the space but said “pass I don’t know”. I asked him if he just didn’t want to participate or if he’d not been listening to his classmates that he didn’t have the answer. He said a combo of the 2 options. Stab to this teacher’s heart. This child brings a sketch pad rather than his Bible to church every week & is frequently talking about some film or TV show. Toward the end of class I gave him the opportunity to recite the 10 commandments for a reward. I was doubtful he could do it. He didn’t have them in perfect order or word perfect but he had them down cold as to God’s intent of how to honor Him & treat others. God’s Word does not go out void even to distracted, disinterested little boys! TYJ!!!
Sharon says
A prayer that as I age & perhaps difficulties arise, that my faith will always remain strong & my trust in the goodness of God radiate to those around me.
Maura says
Dear God, I lift Sharon up to your comfort and peace, knowing that you give her your strength that will see her through this season of life and the changes and challenges that may bring. May she know her faith is a shining testament to your glory. Amen
Melissa says
Lord, make Your presence known to Sharon. We thank you that you are with us always, even in the difficulties that come with aging. Help her turn her worries and anxieties over to You. Father, You know each hair on our heads and each situation we are going through in our bodies. You do what is best for us, even if we don’t understand it at the time. Draw Sharon close to each day and give her guidance, helping her trust You with each new ache and pain. Thank you, Lord, that You never leave us. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen
Claudia Batke says
Lord Jesus, I understand what Sharon is saying because I am in a similar situation. I ask You Lord to give Sharon grace for each day. Reveal Your presence to her as she spends time with you. As Sharon reads Your word, give her revelation and understanding so she may be strengthened both spiritually, emotionally and physically. Assure her of Your promises and that You are the Rock of our salvation. We love You Jesus!
Jo says
I’m trying every way to set things right to sense Gods guidance but a recent venture didnt turn out the way I prayed for , despite praying for months and being so sure it was from God.Now I doubt if God really cares to even bless me at all
Kathy Francescon says
Jo, I am sorry your venture didn’t work out the way you wanted…but some things that seem so bad, turn out to be so good! You have to trust God’s answers and His timing. God loves to bless You! Look around, do you have a roof over your head, food to eat, running water? Do you have eyes that see, ears that hear, a heart that beats? There are so many blessings from God to thank Him for! Because one prayer wasn’t answered the way you wanted, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a blessing. Pray for God’s Will to be done, not your own. God always has your best interest in His loving and faithful heart.
Proverbs 3:5&6 TRUST in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge HIM, and HE shall direct thy paths.
I am praying for you, Jo, that you will see, hear, and know, that God is blessing you every minute of every day. The next breath, your next heartbeat, is a blessing from God! The words you shared here today, is a blessing. You can reach out in a text, you can read, write, think…all these are blessings. God is constantly blessing you and His blessings never end! Praise His Holy Name! God loves you!! That alone, is the greatest blessing of all!
Jo says
Amen! Thank you so much dear. I’m encouraged! You are right, in fact yesterday Sunday sermon was about the same words you mentioned… eyes to see, heart thy beats . Even writing and reading Gods word is a great blessing.
Kristin Palmer says
Lord and Heavenly Father,
I ask that you give Jo wisdom and discernment when hearing your voice. May she “…hear a word behind [her], saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ when [she turns] to the right or when [she turns] to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21)
May she be guided by the Holy Spirit in all of her decisions. I pray that you would remove the doubt in her mind – that you don’t care to bless her – and replace it with the truth that you are for her and not against her. Please give her hope for the future and fill her with a deep sense of your love. May your blessing rest upon her today and always.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favour and honour; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. Lord Almighty, blessed is the one who trusts in you.”
– Psalm 84:11-13
Claudia Batke says
For Jo, “Now may the God of hope fill you with joy and peace in believing so that hope may abound in you by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
Beth Williams says
Jo,
So sorry the venture didn’t work out. God does care to bless you. He has reasons the venture didn’t go well. He answered your prayer with a no or maybe later. Try not to get to discouraged. Trust in God always for He has your best interest at heart. Like Kathy said do you have food to eat, money in bank, car to drive, roof over your head then God has blessed you. Plus you have a home in Heaven & eternity with Jesus. What more could anyone want Again I’m sorry your venture didn’t work as you planned.
Blessings 🙂
Vanessa says
Our youngest son (age 3) died in terrible accident on January 30. I miss him fiercely. We’ve also had to move since then. I need strength to live our new normal. We need routines. We need quiet and predictability. We need to unpack and settle. Our Christian counselor says the deep healing will begin in the calm and quiet. I’m married and have three living kids ages 8, 6, 4. I know God is close to the broken-hearted.
Kathy Francescon says
Vanessa, I cannot imagine the pain you and your family are going through. But God does. I will be praying that God’s will surround you with His mighty love and comfort you in your grief. We don’t understand why some things in life happen, but God does. I am so very sorry for the loss of your child and my prayers for healing and comfort are with you.
Angela says
Vanessa, I’m so sorry about your son. I can’t begin to imagine your grief. I pray you feel the grace, peace, and comfort of God in the difficult days ahead. Do not expect to much too soon. Grief is a journey and it takes as long as is takes. I pray God shows you glimpses of joy each day even as you walk this often lonely road.
Tamara says
Oh Vanessa – the pain of your child’s death is so excruciating. I KNOW how hard this is. Our first child was stillborn, she would have been 41 this summer. My heart breaks so much for you. I pray that you cry out to and allow God to walk with you in your grief, that your whole family is able to talk about your family is able to talk about your son, their brother and each has the space, time and love of each other to grieve in their own way and time. I have found Grief Share to be an amazing ministry that is very helpful in the process of grieving. Also Faith’s Lodge is a place that is dedicated to support those who have lost a child. Huge hugs sweet sister and so many prayers
Donna says
Dearest Vanessa, my heart is heavy for you as I read about the loss of your baby boy, but I pray that our God of all comfort will comfort you as only He can. I know that mere words cannot express how much you miss him, but I’m sure you know that Jesus is holding him closely and that you will be with him again in glory! May our God of all comfort you, encourage your heart and be the Lifter of your head and fill your heart with peace! The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord!
Claudia Batke says
Dearest Vanessa, my heart aches for you my dear sister. My son David passed away on Mother’s Day six years ago. And I miss him every day. Only God is able and was able to comfort you and me in our grief. Comfort Vanessa and her family Lord as You are the God of comfort. Be patient with yourself Vanessa. Grief is a process and God knows what we need every day. Cry out to Him for He hears you and will answer you. I encourage you to search for a grief support group. He is close to the brokenhearted and those who are crushed in spirit. I love you dear sister.

Going through medical tests that the Drs say could lead to a not so serious diagnosis all the way up to a severe form of blood cancer. The waiting between tests and appointments is so very hard. I also am the primary caregiver to my 91 year old precious Momma. So much fear and anxiety that I am trying to lay at Gods feet.
Vivian says
Father I pray that you would reach down and touch Stella. Give her strength for the journey. I thank you that her diagnosis is good because of your shed blood on Calvary. I pray that the granddaughter will find You and learn to love You with all her heart. May she discover that You care deeply about the details of her life and that she can give everything to You. Show her that what the world promises is empty, come rescue her from the path she is on and from the temptations that is so common but difficult at her age. Surround her with good friends, and people that will listen well and love her well but also speak the truth. Give her parents and Mary patience and hope in the process. In Jesus name, Amen.

I will pray for your son Lisa. Marrying the right person at the right time can be such a huge blessing in one’s life. God knows who that person is for each of us. Dawn says
Please pray that my mind be favorably renewed regarding God’s ways with the wicked who seem to succeed more and more against the defenseless. I’m a believer but my belief was so challenged last evening that I feared for my very soul. These episodes with doubt and uncertainty with God’s ways are at their worst at night. We all say prayer changes things but more evidence is desired on larger scales. I find myself trying to validate with scripture the need to trust in his ways but can’t seem to settle sometimes that the end and process are sometimes brutal even for believers. The anticipation for the harm that might come weighs heavy and I despise myself for my angry reaction versus faith reaction. I feel there is nothing I can do but resign myself to the uncertainty that is. I don’t know how to embrace joyful moments when I see and hear about the suffering and brutality in the lives of others.
Tam Edmonston says
Please pray for our Women’s ministry group. I am co-chair with a young woman who struggles with issues of being forced to go to Church as a young person, however Her father was the Pastor. So, I’m unsure how she expected she would not be expected to attend. She tends to cuss in meetings as well. She has only been attending our Church for 2 years. I’m trying to be open in working with younger Women, but I’m really struggling with her. Please pray for wisdom in this situation. Thank you.

Unless God tell me to get prayer for my health problems and if my Husband is not well. Other than I go directly to God. Trust him and his word in prayer. For all my Health problems and if my Husband not well. Thank goodness my Husband not sick to often. I go on with my Health and trust God no matter what. I’ve been having a hard time for a while. After about 16 months of stressful events of varying intensity, my body, mind, and spirit are just so weary and done. I’ve had anxiety for a long time anyway, but this is the worst I’ve ever felt. There is no peace, no relief from it. The physiological effects are wearing me down. I feel so disconnected and lonely. And even with my friends that I have, I have been totally bearing the burden alone. I don’t have any friends who just sit with me in all of this mess. I’m feeling quite hopeless, and afraid that there is no relief. I also have some things going on with my body that I don’t know whether they are attributable solely to anxiety or if there is a more sinister reason, and because things anxiety I’ve struggled with most of my life is based on health-related things, this has been an ongoing nightmare on top of everything else. I just feel so numb and lost. The walls are up and I’m afraid to let them down. I just continue to get hurt. I do keep trying to keep my eyes on the Lord, but he seems to be either silent or speaking quietly enough that I’m not able to hear. Please just pray for me. I don’t even know what to specifically ask to be prayed for / about, I just know that without God working in my life I don’t see how I’m going to get through this. Thank you

Praying for our church family and our church building. We are a small church, and have been doing construction for several years on a building we purchased quite a long time ago. There is so much work to be done, and our small congregation is so very faithful. We cannot wait to be able in the future to move into our own building, and continue in new ways to serve God and our community. There is a lot that is still required; and it has been many years so if you could pray with me for open doors, strength, perseverance, patience and for us to remember that this is HIS house, and all will happen in HIS perfect timing. Thank you so much sisters!

Melania says
Dear God,
I bring Donna before You and I thank You for being with her in these hard moments. I ask that You would be her consolation and strength in her heartache and sorrow.
Lord, wrap her in Your loving embrace, providing comfort in moments of despair. Help her navigate through the stages of grief, and in time, find a way to heal and make peace with her loss. May she find solace in cherished memories and hope in the promise of Your continual presence and love.
In Jesus’ name, amen.

I pray for wisdom, favor and opportunities for a job after a long season of hardships. The Lord helped me overcome depression, anxiety, overthinking, helped me grow through heartbreak, grief and trauma, but I still have a gap of some years in my curriculum. I want to find a job where I can honor and glorify God with my work. Thank you!
Ginger says
Please pray for my husband and his career as he is the sole provider for our family and has had very bad news with regard to his career. At the same time, I am trying to build a business and have mental roadblocks. We are both scared because of recent events and are struggling with depression. Also, we’re trying to hide anything scary from our children. We feel like we’ve taken the steps of faith we should have, but now wondering if we made huge mistakes and we are not hearing from God. Feels like we have been dropped into nothingness. Our faith is shaken.
Ginger says
Dear God,
Thank you for bringing Melania through depression and anxiety and overthinking. Thank you for helping her grow through her grief. Lord, she’s worried that she has gaps because of the season hardship. She just wants to find a job that she loves and that glorifies You. God, we look to You to provide everything! We look to You to give Melania favor & wisdom to see the opportunities that are from You. We trust Your provision and we ask you to move swiftly to encourage and offer hope to Melania. Please give her peace. Give her Your divine encouragement Lord, and guide her every step so she stays within your plan and purpose for her life. Thank you God. Thank you for all of these things in Jesus’s name, Amen.

Heavenly Father,
I pray for Ginger’s husband and I ask that You provide clarity in his choices, ensuring that each step he takes in his career aligns with Your will and leads towards opportunities for growth and fulfillment.
Please, bless Ginger’s business, guide her and give her and her husband discernment to recognize the paths that lead to lasting success and happiness.
In all things, let their work and career decisions reflect a heart committed to serving and glorifying You.
Lord, I lift up Ginger and her husband and I thank You for knowing all about their struggle that feels overwhelming and isolating, and for caring for them.
I pray that You heal their souls, their hearts and renew their Spirit.
Remind them, Lord, that their current pain does not define their future, and with You, there is always a path forward.
God, help them find rest, strength and peace in You.
Father, I ask that You would be their hope and You would remind them of Your unfailing love. Remind them that they are not alone, that You are with them, and that their lives are precious in Your sight.
In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

I love this article!! I love that I belong to a family that cries out to God, knowing that He hears me and is my ever present help in times of need. I love that He loves me and cares about me. I love that He longs for us to ” Come unto Me” , to lean upon Him and trust Him. I love that He is an amazing Father, intimate and involved in every part of my life. And I love that He is good all the time, patient and cheering us on.
Attentive, protective, providing for me the things I have need of. Supportive, forgiving, and gentle in His care of me. That is who He His. That is my Heavenly Father. And I am proud to be His daughter.

I’ve been crying out to God for months, begging for him to heal my anxiety. I so desperately want and need to be healed.
Donna says
I pray for healing from your anxiety as you seek the Lord Trish. May that you find the peace that comes from God alone. I pray these verses might encourage you:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

Please pray for my 2 sons who have not spoken to each other for almost a year. Pray for healing, it breaks my heart as a mom to both of them. I have a nephew who was orphaned when he was 2 years old, living in his car with his cat. Working everyday and can’t afford an apartment and still at his other bills. Pride keeps him from staying with family members.

I prayed for your sons, that the Holy Spirit will soften both their hearts and give them a desire to repair their relationship with love and forgiveness. Prayers for you, that you will rest and have peace in God’s arms and leave this worry at His feet. I have a big problem of my own I’m wrestling with. I saw recently that if we keep our focus on The Lord, instead of our problem, the problem will take care of itself. I’ll try if you do! . Prayers for your nephew, that the Lord will provide new hope and purpose, and that he will be encouraged in his circumstances. I’m so sorry you are having to worry for these men you love. But don’t stop praying for them. God hears you and He knows your heart.

I am overwhelmed by the amount of debt I have. I would like to pay it all back. I have not been a good steward of the resources God has given me, and I am asking for His forgiveness, as well as a second chance, to start over with a clean slate. Please, God, help me. The CRA wants me to pay $100,000.00 ++ in 6 months. I do not see a way out of this. Please provide a way out, God. This I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Mar says
Shiela – I pray that the Lord will work miracles in your financial situation. Sometimes, he resolves our problems in ways we never even imagined. I know these types of worries are scary and overwhelming. They rob us of our joy and we cannot see a way out of them. Sometimes, all we can do is lay the problem at the feet of the Lord. As it says in Psalm 23: “Yea, tho I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil for Thou art with me.” Never stop praying. The Lord hears you and knows your heart. And he’s in the trenches with you. Leave your problem in His capable hands. Breathe deep and leave it with Him.

After a season of great blessing, my husband closed his company and we have had over a year of horrible financial hardship. As in, not a penny to our name. The Lord has sustained us and We are trusting the Lord through this valley, but we are weary and afraid. Please pray that the Lord will have mercy, grow our faith and send miracles!

In Courage,
I have a praise report. One friend who had brain surgery a week ago on Friday was at church last Sunday. He got a good report so far & goes back in a week or two to see if the surgery was a success.
My husband’s ex-father-in-law had a high PSA. Pray hard he doesn’t have cancer. They will know for sure on the 30th. He has other health issues isn’t going to take chemo.
Praying for everyone here. Abba Father please come near to all the women here at In Courage. They have many issues. Bless them financially, spiritually, mentally & physically. Give them wisdom to know what you would have them do. Guide & direct their paths keep them safe.
Blessings 🙂

I live in a small town and do not fit in. I am sadly not included in anything. My food is not eaten for potlucks. I was assigned the a day for the community coffee and came home with most of my treats. My struggles are on my own. I love the Lord and know He sent me here, but I am not accepted. My Church has never included me , but I show up and do what I am allowed.
I try and fail. I guess living in a small town and going to a cliquish church can be hurtful.
