    • Every one of the ladies who transmitted Biblical verses reached my heart, and soul. If it were not for my faith and love for God/Jesus, I would be a nervous wreck because of the harassment of my neighbor. I have found the peace of Christ within and strive to continue feeling His presence and comfort…also, keeping my mouth shut.
      Thank you for all the beautiful verses in overcoming the chaos and negative doings of these difficult times.
      I appreciate it.

  14. There was a day that things were going on in my life that I just couldn’t comprehend. My friend and colleague shared this verse with me. I have kept it in my heart and have referred to it many times during this year of 2020. So much heartache, sickness and pure meanness that I just can’t understand. However, I try hard to keep the faith that God has this already figured out and that’s not my job to focus on. I just need to trust in him!

    Isaiah 55:8-9

  15. Roman’s 15:13. “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

  16. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13). This has been my life verse and more so now with all that we see daily happening around us. To add icing on the cake, my husband is going through a series of exams to either confirm or disprove a cancer diagnosis. More than ever I need to constantly remember this verse.

    These verses give me the hope that I need, guiding my husband through Parkinson’s Disease and cardiomyopathy. I KNOW what lies at the end of my journey, no matter how difficult the road is getting there. Thank you for your daily encouragement!

  19. This threadbare prayer interests me. I am dealing with a teenage son that has completely changed. Attitude, actions that are so unlike him, feelings of not feeling loved. I’m praying desperately to know how to help him. Many times I just sit with God not knowing what to say. I now have a name for my prayers.

  25. I am a senior lady with type 1 diabetes who became a widow in 2019. The verse Bible verse I hang onto is Isaiah 54:5-6. “Remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. For your maker is your husband, the Lord Almighty is His name.”

  26. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” Philippians 4:13. My husband who has always been extremely healthy, never any meds, had an attack with diverticulitis and we took him the the ER on Feb 2nd. They did a scan to see what it was and it was an acute case of diverticulitis, but they also found something more significant, a very large aneurysm on his aorta valve in his heart. After many Dr. appointments and tests, they said they would have to do open heart surgery and replace the valve, repair the aneurysm. Covid came and we didn’t get to surgery until May 18th. Dr. said it could burst any minute and he would immediately die. But god didn’t let that happen. We claimed this scripture while waiting and still do. He is almost 5 months after surgery and doing great! We are so blessed and so thankful!!! Praising God!!!

  27. Zephaniah 3:17
    “The Lord your God is among you, a warrior who saves. He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will be quiet in his love. He will delight in you with singing.” Written in the front of my Mom’s Bible which I received when she went “home”.

  28. Sometimes the simplest prayers, ones that we can easily pull from memory and heart, pack a big punch. One of my favorites is Psalm 39:7 “And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My hope is in You.” I tell my family and friends, it doesn’t matter what you say in your prayers, God just likes hearing from us.

  30. What a treasury of verses of strength, hope and encouragement! I will save this post and come back to it often. We all need to receive and to be able to offer encouragement in this season. I love this concept of threadbare prayers. Often it seems I just don’t have many words, especially when my heart is aching.

    John 16:33 … so that in me you may have peace. In this world you WILL have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.

    Love overcomes!

  39. In recent years and in this particular season in time–Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, which begins: “For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…..”

  43. Nehemiah 8:10: This day is the Lord’s. Do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

  52. Matthew 11:28-30 (The Message) “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

  53. This is sooo heartfelt and uplifting. The ThreadBare Prayer. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. To God Be The Glory!! The scripture verse that is keeping me in this season is Psalm 103:6. May God continue to bless you to encourage us. Grace and peace to you.

  56. My friend, Jessica’s father was killed in an airplane accident 6 years ago. That left Jessica and her mother, Joy. They were the best of best friends! Joy was diagnosed with cancer and passed away this past August. The evening of Joy’s prayer service, Jessica’s husband had a massive heart attack (called a widow maker) he was 44 years old. Jessica has two young boys, 14 and 12.
    Please prayer for them.

  57. My verse for the last few months–

    So let us know, let us press on to know the LORD. His going forth is as certain as the dawn; And He will come to us like the rain, Like the spring rain watering the earth.” Hosea 6:3

    It is very hard for me to “wait patiently on the Lord” but that’s exactly what He has been calling me to do in my body in times of physical pain and exhaustion…and admittedly anger at not having a body that will do what I want to do.
    But ultimately I do “see the Light” and find peace in HIS PRESENCE AND IN HIS WAY.

  59. As external forces have altered life, some aspects are quieter while others are overwhelmingly loud. And in the midst of it, I’m not nearly as sure of my purpose or ability to execute. I ran across 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12: Yet we urge you, brothers and sisters, to do so more and more, and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. I’ve had many moments when the Bible has liberated me and my thinking but this was huge. I’m supposed to be seeking a normal life… quiet, self-supporting and that’s… that’s enough to influence, to spread seed, and to be.

  60. 2 Timothy 1:12 has carried me over a lifetime:

    “…because I know whom I have believed, and am convinced that he is able to guard what I have entrusted to him for that day.”

  61. I always cling to Matthew 6:34 – do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own. This verse reminds me to live day to day and stay in the present. Too many times I spiral thinking of too many things and this helps me breathe and focus on one thing at a time.

  65. Ephesians 6:12 For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers of the unseen world.

  66. “The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.” Psalm 29:11 A much-needed verse going through a broken ankle w/weeks on crutches and now my husband’s shoulder surgery recovery besides various family members going through a variety of health issues.

  67. Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit”. Over the past two years I’ve had to run to God for refuge as my husband invested his time in and out of pornography, something he says is “no big deal”. He’s doing better, but the wounds are deep and I still feel that crushed spirit, a sense of something precious lost, a not measuring up. Trust, security and peace are fleeting But God is the anchor I hold onto. Your prayer to your friend was perfect for me. Thank you! The enemy is real but the battle belongs to the Lord…

  68. Love threadbare prayer…..I’ve heard if your hangin by a thread let it be a thread from Jesus garment. Lately I don’t even feel that. Like I missed Jesus…. This Season & the enemy…. some days I feel like I can’t .It is too much. Beyond overwhelemed… Drowning & not sure how to get back to the surface. Last Night I said I give up God & yet here I write. Simply because My God is too Good & says not yet daughter…not yet

  69. Wonderful timing for your book Stacey! God has always been faithful to guard that little spark of faith for me. Jeremiah 32:40-41. ‘I will make with them an everlasting covenant, that I will not turn away from doing good to them…. I will rejoice in doing them good.’ A lot of times I confess my faith is as small as a mustard seed. May God have mercy on me.

    Perfect timing, God knew about covid 19 before it attacked just as He knew about our political quagmire and must shake His anthropomorphic head at our audacity and pride and imaginary self sufficiency. Need a devotional to touch my threadbare soul as don’t consciously stress about all this turmoil but subconsciously must.

    My daughter is struggling with depression at this time. I sent her a book about this passage of scripture. I am praying that her depression will be lifted.

  77. Caring for my 88 yr old parents has been challenging this yr with arrhythmia, pacemaker, falls, hospitalizations & PT. We strive to maintain balance & strength for each of us.
    Sensing fear entering the hospital as a designated care provider for my parent, I sensed peace was needed by the staff as well as the patient & caregivers.
    We earnestly prayed for peace for each shift as outlined in John 14:27 (HCSB): 27 “Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Your heart must not be troubled or fearful.” Gratefully the Lord filled each one.
    We also prayed for strength which the Lord provided. Nehemiah 8:10 (HCSB): 10 Then he said to them, “Go and eat what is rich, drink what is sweet, and send portions to those who have nothing prepared, since today is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, because the joy of the Lord is your stronghold.” His Word blessedly us & those in the midst. Appreciate your thoughtfulness in making this offer. May peace be yours as well <

    I know two songs with a version of that verse and it takes about 20 seconds to sing the choruses, so that is what I do as I wash my hands.

  86. Psalm 16:8 is one of my go to verses when I feel overwhelmed. Because God is always before me and beside me, He keeps me from stumbling.

    Isaiah 30:21 (NLT) “Your own ears will hear him. Right behind you a voice will say, “This is the way you should go.” whether to the right or the left.” This verse deeply touches me because my threadbare prayers often occur when I am walking outside…..seeking God’s face…..filled up with heart ache, pain, sadness, and brokenness. There are literal and life paths that I could take or divert from, but I desire to hear God’s voice behind me and speaking to me. May this verse also do that for you!

  88. I have four scriptures that anchor me in life’s disquieting situations:

    What a season this has been!! I find so much comfort knowing that God is with us in each season, walking with us, guiding us, loving us. There is no season outside of God’s timing, and I look forward to better seasons ahead!

    in John 16:33 God says “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” We know trials & troubles are coming. This year seems to throw more at us than ever before. Just know that God has overcome & we are overcomers as well. The verse I’ve been ruminating this year is Psalm 23:4-5 “Yea thou I walk through the valley of shadow of death I will fear no evil for thou art with me. Thy rod & staff they comfort me.” We are walking through the valley that is 2020. We can take heart & not fear as God has overcome this sin darkened world. We know that in the end we win!! Praise God!
