Don’t worry about anything, but in everything, through prayer and petition with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:6-7 (CSB)
Our minds are filled to capacity, cluttered with the grocery list for our kids’ lunches this week or with the assignments that are due before the end of the semester or with the details of care needed for our aging parents. We sit on the ground with laundry strewn around us, our arms on autopilot as we fold clothes and a myriad of socks. There are more things that need to be done than are done already — with work, in relationships, in our homes — and we are weary.
If we’re honest, sometimes it feels better to run around, be busy, and let our thoughts run amuck. Worrying feels like we’re in control. But even if we can achieve it, control is a slippery foundation to stand on and one that doesn’t give us true peace.
True peace comes from being in the right posture. Praying, petitioning, presenting our requests — these words reveal the posture we are to have.
Deep, slow breaths.
Our bodies, our minds, our hearts surrendered and at rest.
May we know the peace that surpasses all understanding as we present our requests to God today.
