“‘Though the mountains move and the hills shake, My love will not be removed from you
and My covenant of peace will not be shaken,’ says your compassionate LORD.”
What are your mountains today? You know the ones.
The job you had to tell your family you lost. The relationship that’s not working even though you keep fervently praying. The child who is still wandering in the world without Jesus. The diagnosis that is shocking and completely life changing. The baby who is still waiting for you across the sea with a growing hill of red tape.
What has got you shaken up?
Why do you feel like you can’t seem to find the perfect pair of peace sandals? Are you starting to think God is ignoring your situation?
“Though the mountains move and the hills shake”. . . even if the very things we thought were immovable, a key to our foundation of life, are now crumbling around us, throwing us off our faith in the One who made the mountains with half a word, there is Hope.
God has not removed His love from you.
Truly. His word is complete truth. He’s telling you today you can count on Him.
No matter how ugly it gets or if your faith grows tinier than a mustard seed, He is right there with you. Jesus is holding your right hand. He’s holding you up. Carrying you through this hard time.
God is showering you with His love.
He doesn’t tack on an challenge to this verse to “Stay strong. You better trust me or I’ll remove myself from you situation.” Our world is flipping upside down, and He knows it. But it’s upside down in the world when we sometimes see Him for who He really is — Love and Peace.
I love that Isaiah writes the Lord, Adonai our Father, and compassionately tells us . . . “My love will not be removed from you and My covenant of peace will not be shaken.”
In the verses before, God is calling His people back to Him. He’s just taken Israel through a dark time to get their attention and worship. God calls them back from their grief and shows them compassion through His everlasting love.
God reminds us of what He did with Noah and the rainbow covenant of love and grace and pointing to Jesus, the real promise of salvation in the clouds. He tells us His covenant of blessing with never be broken and He will be loyal to us.
Although what we may see, feel, and hear tells us it’s over, hopeless. The Lord reminds us He will be loyal, compassionate, loving and will remain through all that shakes us.
What is your mountain?
What has you shaken up today?
How can you worship God, the One Who Remains, and is merciful through the hard times?
How can we pray for you today so you will experience God’s love and peace?
