“I rejoice over Your promise like one who finds vast treasure.”

{Psalm 119:162, HCSB}

Reasons to Rejoice . . .

Some of my favorite stories include the motif of a hidden treasure — whether it’s a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow or a buried chest of precious jewels on a secret island.

Sometimes a hidden treasure looks like Charlie, discovering the golden ticket inside a Willy Wonka chocolate bar. Other times it looks like the characters in a John Steinbeck novel, finding the great pearl.

But when the psalmist likens his joy in God’s promise to the joy of finding a vast treasure, he isn’t talking about a novel or a fairy tale.

God’s promises are real, and they’re worth more than any earthly treasure.

The psalmist has good reason to rejoice. For he knows that God always makes good on His promises. We can rejoice too. For God’s promises are still in effect today. Because He is eternal.

And yet, I wonder . . . when was the last time I actually did rejoice over one of God’s promises? Too often I take them for granted. I need to remind myself of God’s promises in His Word . . .

God has promised to remember our iniquity no more.
God has promised to walk with us, in every circumstance and every trial.
God has promised that He’ll never leave us, never forsake us.
And God has promised to prepare a place for us, so we can spend eternity with Him!

What beautiful reasons to rejoice.

Which promises of God are you rejoicing over today?
