As I read through the Scriptures, I find stories that teach me how to be a good friend. Not in the expected “love your neighbor” way, but in a simpler everyday practical way. There’s no parable that specifically speaks to it, but by watching the way Jesus engages with others, I sense it. The invitation.
We saved you a seat.
It’s the feeling that all are welcome — regardless of age or status or title. It’s the idea that there is always a way to fit one more new friend around the table, to find one more loaf of bread, to stretch the fellowship a little bit wider and deeper. No one left out, everyone invited.
I see it as Jesus takes time to speak one-on-one with women and the hurting, with His friends and disciples and strangers alike. I see it as Jesus speaks to crowds from boats and shorelines, in big cities and small towns. It’s simple hospitality.
You are welcome here.
You and your story, the everyday parts of it. The ordinary and extraordinary, the hard and the happy. That’s what friendship on purpose says to someone else. Over tea or coffee as women gather together and stories are shared, friendships are deepened. Whether we’re looking across the table at a friend we’ve known for decades or taking the brave step to meet someone new for the first time, we’re opening our hearts to find room for one more. One more story, one more friend.

This is beautiful, that’s what it’s all about, encouraging one another, letting our lights shine, don’t ever give up, trust in God always, He will see you through anything.

A few years ago work became “stressfully bad” for me. I felt and still do that I don’t belong there anymore. I have two good friends and we try to eat lunch together daily. We share our burdens about life and work a little. One friend is going through a lot of stuff at home, work and with her aging parents. I sensed she needed an escape. A few weeks ago I invited her to a women’s retreat I was going on. We shared a room, ate together and had a good time learning about God and just leaving life alone for a while! Wish we could go back!
