In the beginning the Word already existed.
The Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He existed in the beginning with God.
God created everything through him,
and nothing was created except through him.
The Word gave life to everything that was created,
and his life brought light to everyone.
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness can never extinguish it.
John 1:1-5

Thank you for the reminder that no matter how dark it gets…the darkness CANNOT extinguish the Light! That truth brings us hope!

Cathy Stroud says
Jesus is right here with me on this earth in the midst of all that is wrong. He is our creator and He knows ALL things thus I can rest and marvel at Him in spite of difficulties and seemingly unfairness. We as Christians are blessed beyond comprehension. Let’s praise Him right here, right now! He loves little ole me!

Cathy, I just got home from a 12 hour work day as a home care nurse. I am so frustrated about my job, the other nurses and the poor state of health care today. Your comment really made that verse come alive for me and I appreciate it so very, very much. Like, I just took a deep breathe, probably first one today. The tension eased out of my shoulders. Cuz God is there for me. That is so easy to forget on hectic days when nothing seems to go right at work or home. Thank you again!!
Yolanda Russell says

I WANT YOU TO KNOW MY SAVIOR, WHO CAME – THE LI – VING WORD
JESUS CAME – AS PROPHETS SAID HE WOULD,
WRITTEN DOWN, FULFILLING EVERY WORD,
HEALED AND OPENED EYES AND GAVE NEW LIFE,
GOD IN FLESH, REDEEMING SACRIFICE

Praise the Lord for the light. I am so happy that we serve a Lord that we do not have to live in darkness.
Beth Williams says
I sometimes love darkness. When showering I light a candle and use that time as prayer & worship with my Lord & Jesus. It is my quiet time to Praise the creator of light and everything and to present my requests.
God is everywhere all the time and His light never dies out. It shines brighter and brighter each day! Love the scripture!!
God bless everyone this advent season!

Perfect reminder for this first Sunday (and day) of Advent. Blessings, Linda

Ginger Haan says
How comforting to know God will never leave nor forsake us. He’s always with us and asks us to do as Brother Lawrence admonishes in his book titled, “Practicing the Presence of God.” He brings us light which is truth and illumines the path ahead. Beautiful thoughts from this Scripture.
Donna says
Can someone help me understand this verse please? “the Word was with God, and the Word was God”? So is John talking about an addition to Father, Son and Holy Spirit?
Carissa says
Good morning Donna. I believe the Word is Jesus. You can substitute by saying “Jesus was with God and Jesus IS God.”
Ellie says
AMEN! May my light always shine for Him! Thnak you for these words!
