  1. This feels like winter for me; and i feel like i am getting tired each day; so i have started the day with trying to remember three blessings im grateful for, it’s starting to feel like work to remember – sorry for sounding so blue…
    Today’s blessings
    – (in) courage
    – a counselor that prays with me and incourages me to look to Jesus
    – A job
    – the message Bible 🙂
    – music that surrounds me with God’s perspective

    • Angie, are you counting 1,000 gifts? Asking because you said you’re trying to find 3 blessings each day. My bible study is counting to 1000 together and it’s been an encouragement to keep looking for the little joys, even in the crazy or tiring weeks. Accountability is huge in that I think. (PS I love the Message too!)

  2. I love this: “I don’t want to miss the gift of now by looking too far into the future. The present is a present, a gift waiting to be unwrapped.”

Thank you Kaitlyn for this post. Just what I needed to read today. I tend to live my life looking to the future…what will be next…that I often forget the the gift of today! Today…God has special gifts waiting for me to unwrap, and I choose to unwrap with JOY! And thankfulness!

  3. I recently lost my husband and did not see any reason to go on. I just took it one day at a time, all that I could do, and seem to have come out the other side of winter. God has given me a very loving man who has been willing to work through my winter and bringing me into spring. What seemed impossible now has great possibilities.

  4. Thank you, Kaitlyn!
Trying to enjoy living in the moment and not worrying about the future. Though that is hard, I focus on His promises in Mathew 6:25-34 to remind me that I am dependent on His Provision.

“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?
Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.
If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

  5. This is a great reminder for me today. Thank you for sharing! I will look at the sunshine today, and the changing leaves still in full autumn color on the trees, and thank God for THIS moment, even in the hurt.

    • Right there with ya – loving the beautiful changing colors and the bright blue sky today. It rained hard last night but I woke up to a clear blue sky…so beautiful and a great reminder!

  6. Sweet Kaitlyn, I loved this! The book I recently published is called A Gift Worth Keeping: It Goes with my Décor … it is about this very thing. Even the hardships in life are gifts when God is our everything. I’ve been in a hard spot this week … and, even with the book, I had to remind myself that this hard spot is a gift.

You have been a blessing to me … in many ways!!
    Love, shelli

  7. This is a beautiful reminder of what’s important, Kaitlyn. Enjoy the NOW of every day. I love you and am so proud to be your mom. XOXOXO

  8. I just came through a year long storm of not working and not knowing how I was going to survive BUT God provided for me every step of the way. The storm has subsided for now but another storm lurks around the corner and I know that he gave me that year to prepare me for what is ahead. It does not mean that I like it but I know that I can testify to someone else who is going through a storm by letting them know that HE is WITH you and HE will bring you through. We just have to trust HIM and have faith because he knows just how much we can handle and he will NEVER leave us. There are many blessings that we never see that he gives us during these storms. I am both grateful and filled with joy because of this experience.

    • I 100% agree that there are so often little blessings hidden in the storms. You’re right – He is ever Faithful and never failing, always with us through the good and the bad and the storms. Thank you for sharing, Paulette.

  9. As my husband and I entered retirement, plans for travel and other fun things were being made. Four months before his retirement, 14 months before mine, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. The upcoming “season” suddenly changed. It has had some difficult moments in the nine years since. However, as he reminds me when I “wish for certain things that didn’t happen”, we are nine years out and enjoying our time together. We have two grandsons that I have been able to enjoy. Yes, dark times were there and sometimes still catch us, but there is tremendous joy as well.

    • Such a good perspective you seem to have on everything…hoping that He has given you new dreams in these 9 years and many, many great memories.

  10. I read your post this morning and it gave such solace to my heart. I’ve been experiencing many changes in my life, some of them wonderful and one just profoundly hurtful. The hurtful experience does feel like winter in my heart but I’m trying so very hard to lean on the Lord for that hope of spring. Thank you for reminding me to catch joy even if it’s just for today.

    • It’s seriously so kind (and thoughtful) of you to take the time to come back later and write this comment. I’m praying that you’ll find joy in both the wonderful and the hurtful change…even while you’re waiting for Spring.

  11. I’m in a pretty good season right now. I’m learning to find joy in even the smallest of things. I keep a thankful journal and list daily the things I happy about for that day. Even on the darkest days you can find some good.

    Thankful for – job
    hubby 🙂
    debt free 🙂

Worry about aging father. I know that God will handle this situation if I just turn it over to him.

    Blessings!

    • I keep a thankful journal as well! Have you read One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voskamp? My bible study and I are all counting to 1,000 together. 🙂

      • I haven’t read it yet. I started my thankful journal a few years ago when I was don in the dumps. I have about 246 items on the original list and just add to it daily.

It would be easy to list 1,000 items just by thinking of all the little things we take for granted like internet radio, TV preachers, health, electricity, etc.

  12. Hi Kaitlyn, Thank you for your encouragement to be thankful! Thanksgiving and praise are the two best cures for worry. Your reminder to enjoy the moment is priceless – and just in time for the weekend! 🙂 Blessings, Noelle
