Summer has always been my favorite season.
Floating in the pool.
Sunbathing.
Cook-outs.
Fireworks.
Live music.
The farmer’s market.
Fresh fruit – especially watemelon.
As a mom, I love summer even more now.
Because everything on my list is filled with squeals of wonder and delight (well, the squeals of delight are from my 3-year-old. My 3-week-old doesn’t have the delight part down yet, but she will.)
My son wants to go swimming every day. He leaps into the water with reckless abandon.
It is captivating to see him to take joy in such a simple pleasure.
Too often, as adults, we are so caught up in the “big” stuff that we miss out on the simple joys.
At least I know I do.
But with a newborn in my arm and a 3-year-old boy who giggles more in a day than I do in a week, I can’t help but reflect on the true joys God has placed in my life — and give thanks.
Today, go jump in a pool. Laugh until your belly hurts. Take time to revel in the simple.

Oh yes, those simple pleasures are the best … they’re the ones we’ll look back on and remember with great fondness … they usually seem to revolve around people we love, the beauties of nature, satisfying food, music that stirs our souls …
Trying to be actively “be in the moment” is allowing me to more fully enjoy the simple blessings God gives. Instead of being preoccupied by tasks, technology, and to-do lists, I am becoming more willing to lay these things aside when it comes to a conversation with a loved one.
To truly focus on another is one of the sweetest gifts we can give them – and ourselves. Too bad it seems to have gotten more and more challenging to do …

Although there is little in life more enjoyable then working up an appetite in the pool before wolfing down a BBQ meal I have to admit, the softest spot in my heart belongs to the cool breeze, lush harvest, gray skies and golden woods of autumn!
