I like how DaySpring offers three possible spellings for the image featured on this beautiful wall hanging: ichthys, ichthus or icthus.
Personally, I just call it a Jesus fish.
Not out loud or in public! But in my head? Yeah, I do. I call it a Jesus fish. It’s easier to pronounce and, as far as I know, there are no debates surrounding the spelling of either “Jesus” or “fish.”
Several years ago, I bought a magnet for my car. You guessed it: it was an ichthus. I never actually put it on my car, though, because every time I would think about it, I’d remember the last time I cut someone off in traffic (accidentally, of course!) or bumped up my speed just a few more miles over the speed limit or drove with the windows down and the stereo blaring music more appropriate for a dance club than a Bible study.
I was afraid people would think badly of me – or Christians in general – if I put that magnet on my car. Really, I was afraid I couldn’t live up to what that magnet stood for. I was afraid I wasn’t a very good representative of the Jesus fish.
As I said, that was several years ago. Now I realize that the beauty of Jesus and my faith is the imperfection of it all. (And how He loves me even if I drive too fast.) Of course, now I’m married to a “car guy” who is fundamentally opposed to magnets, stickers, fingerprints or any other decoration placed on a car, so I’m confined to expressing my personality and faith in our home.
Not that that’s a bad thing! Especially when I find beautiful artwork like this wood-carved wall hanging here at DaySpring. And if you’re like me – and enjoy decorating your home with pretty, faith-focused artwork – you’re going to LOVE what I have to tell you today!
DaySpring is giving away FIVE wood-carved wall hangings with a beautiful ichthus. No matter how you spell it, that’s exciting! To enter, leave a comment telling us how you express your faith – and your dedication to serving the Lord – in your home.Leave a Comment
