Luke 2:16-19 “So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.”
I love the beautiful picture this passage of Scripture paints of the shepherds rushing to the scene, and announcing the birth of Christ to all who would listen, while Mary remains quietly pensive.
She has carried this secret in her womb for months, by faith risked her own life, obeyed a celestial messenger, and sacrificed much for the sake of this very moment. She has patiently awaited this glorious revelation. Yet instead of shouting from the mountain tops, “I’ve just given birth to the Savior of the world!”, she responds quietly with pure wonder.
Her thoughts are not filled with discomfort, discontentment, or demands – instead she quietly soaks in this miracle that has just transpired. There will be no royal accommodations or celebrations – yet her Son will be crowned the King of all Kings. She takes the moment to treasure this gift – this child who humbly lies in a manger.
Have you allowed yourself to get lost in the extraordinariness of Christ’s birth this season? Are you captivated by this familiar story or have distractions taken away the glorious beauty of Christmas? Have you taken a moment to wonder at its mystery?
My friends, don’t miss the opportunity to worship the only Gift that matters this Christmas. May the hope, glory and delight of our Savior be your true treasure!

I love this: “Yet instead of shouting from the mountain tops, “I’ve just given birth to the Savior of the world!”, she responds quietly with pure wonder.”
I love Mary’s example. She’s not prideful, envious, or judgmental. Instead, she is trusting, obedient, reflective, and filled with praise.
Thank you for this beautiful post! Merry Christmas!

One of my favorite paintings of the manger scene is one in which the shepherds have arrived, are worshipping the infant king, Joseph is holding Jesus and beaming in the way on,y a new father can and Mary is. . .sleeping. Of course she was, she just gave birth. Thank you!
