My heart yearns and wonders if heaven is watching
this awkward gait of feet of clay,
skin wrapped around a soul redeemed…
made from here but not FOR here and
hot glue gunned in place by gravity.
My heart yearns and wonders if heaven is watching
me try to peel back a layer
– just one layer –
so the Light can get in.
While always dancing at the edges
of each and every day-to-day
it glitters
and I see it from
the corner of my eye.
Surely I am not the only one who knows
some days, that now
– on this side of the cross –
her heart can hold so much more
than what is offered here…
this dark called light
which merely glows as embers fade to black.
I still my racing heart
to pause and listen.
Silent prayers breathed into space;
bursting with possibilities
as Light shines
into dusty corners
that I can only dream of reaching on my own.
My here-on-earth heart yearns for heaven
and not just the by and by version.
My heart yearns for heaven
that glitters
at the edge
of each and every day-to-day…
There are days I know this heart can hold so much more.
Surely mine is not the only one.

No, yours is not the only one.
Lovely poem that counters our clinging to what glitters here. Transcendent.
I join you in my desire to see heaven this morning! I feel like I am tasting it in my life right now! God is so amazing!!! Thank you so much for sharing your incredible words this morning. You really know how to make a full word picture! You brought tears of joy to my eyes as I read your message.
That was just beautiful. I don’t even have any other words except just beautiful. Thank you Deidra. You have blessed my Sunday morning! 🙂
Me too! Heaven…..home!
Oh, this is perfect. You are not the only one.
that was beautiful…peeling back one more layer to let the light in…smiles.
Your words touched a hurt so deep today.
I ache for *home*
for healing
Thank you for sharing
Such beautiful words – and so true. Heaven that glitters at every day -to – day …
you can write, girl. glittering at the edges. my favorite line. i yearn, too. i yearn for peace. i yearn for a still cup.
I find myself yearning for heaven more and more these days, but also for just a glimpse of it in this earthly frame. I know there is so much more too Deidra, if only I can learn to embrace it.
This was just exquisite.
He has set eternity into my heart, too… Oh, to be free from “down to earth”! To be able to soar in reality instead of having to come “back to” reality… these romantic notions and day dreams are heaven in our hearts, aren’t they… When I look up at a star-lit sky, I sometimes imagine it’s a black canvas between us and heaven with little pinholes poked into it so heaven’s light can shine through… Oh, to see His face! Someday!
And yes… not just to know this heaven in the by and by but also in my heart in the here and now day to day…
Yes, Deidra…you surely aren’t the only one!
What lovely words for my Sunday. YOU BLESS ME!
“Just a few more weary days and then
I’ll fly away
To a land where joy shall never end
I’ll fly away…..”
You are not the only one! I cannot wait to see his face!
God bless,
Fi
Deidra, girl, you and your words make me ache for heaven every time I read them. They make a little bit of there come here, right into our everyday lives. When I look into your heart I catch a glimpse of His too. Thanks so much for the reminder of Home.
This is beautiful.
And, no, you’re not the only one!
“My here-on-earth heart yearns for heaven”
sigh… me too.
I long for heaven…the little I know if it. I know it will be more joy filled and glorious than we can even imagine. My girls just lost their grandpa (my dad) last month and they are so jealous that grandpa is with Jesus!
What a glorious day of rejoicing it will be to finally be home….
Much love!
Deidra,
Your poem has explained something big for me…that this undefined yearning I feel sometimes deep in my heart is perhaps for heaven, beyond and so much more what’s glimpsed on earth. Thank you!
Very good post. Made me realize I was totally wrong about this issue. I figure that one
learns something new everyday. Mrs Right learned her lesson! Nice, informative website by the way.
