We may throw the dice (also translated "We may cast the lots") but the Lord determines how they fall. Proverbs 16:33
We talk of the mystery. Because sometimes (dare I say it?) prayer feels like throwing dice. The words are thrust from our lips and who knows what happens next.
Sometimes the answer is what we requested.
Sometimes it's the opposite.
But there is One who knows. And what are results to Him? One word from His lips and the world begins or ends. He can scatter stars, fill oceans, bring life with just a breath. Granting what we ask is never a challenge for Him.
So prayer has to be about more than this.
It has to be about what happens in those seconds of the soul between when we "throw the dice" and see what His answer will be.
I see it in slow motion, dice falling, and we watch with wide eyes. But in all we do, Someone is watching us too. Because in the end, He knows it's not the dice we need. Not the 6 or 3 or 4.
No, the result we need most is more of Him in our lives.
And that's what He's always willing to give us.
Prayer is not about receiving.
It's about falling in love.
And the real miracle is not getting what we want–it's about realizing how much we're wanted.
We throw the dice…
and suddenly our hands are open to embrace the Lover of Our Souls.
