Like many of you this time of year, I am very much looking forward to seeing the sun again! While we are waiting for more sun and less rain, I’ve been puttering around my home adding simple reminders of what is to come in this brighter season ahead! I keep things very simple around my house, but I still enjoy mixing things up for the seasons.
Here are a few quick and easy ideas I am using:
1. Change the pillow covers.
I happen to have a few spring time pillows, but if your house has more winter themed fabrics, spring is a good time to lighten up and change pillows! Pillows are very easy to recover. Even if you can’t sew, you can tie a fun spring scarf (I’ve seen fun affordable scarves at TJ Maxx) around a pillow and give it a whole new look.
2. Add some greenery.
Beside the beauty of cut flowers in the spring time, you can add affordable easy to care for plants right into your decor! Not only is it healthy for the indoor air quality to have plants in your home, seeing plants really makes you feel like spring has come. My mom and grandma always had green plants around and I’ve been trying to bring more into my own home this spring.
The addition of a turquoise vase, a nest, some birds and a couple of starfish lightened things up and brought a little spring time flair to this cabinet. Look around for an unexpected pop of color you could add to liven things up!
4. Decorate with glass bottles and jars. I had spotted an antique aqua mason jar online and really wanted to add one to my collection of glass. When my girls happened to see one in an antique store, they bought it for me! I have collections of beautiful glass bottles and jars around my house and love the spring and summer ambience they bring. This new mason jar makes me think about summer fruit! You could use this jar as a vase for flowers, a container for shells or simply appreciate its beauty on your kitchen shelves.
Even if you are living in a rental, a temporary home or on a budget, there are plenty of non-permanent and affordable ways like these you can use to bring a little spring to your decor!
What spring items are you adding to your home?

Melissa,
I LOVE these ideas! I don’t have a lot of ideas to add, but I do love buying fresh tulips when I can. They brighten any room!
I can’t sew worth a lick, so that scarf idea has me very intrigued!
Also, do you know what type of plant (succulents?) is in the picture? We have a beautiful Lavender Farm here on Maui, and I’m sure I’ve seen them there. I absolutely love them because of the flower-pattern they make.
Thanks for the inspiration!

I brought in a few tulips from the yard to put in the dining room and am going to add a plant or two to the kitchen here soon!

Yes, those little plants are called succulents. They are the only plant I can’t kill. 🙂 And I love them!

Here in MN – it’s much needed to think light and put springy things around. I love the scarf idea! hadn’t thought of that … and I’m going this week to get succulents – just beautiful!

Fabulous ideas! I like to use table runners on top of certain pieces of furniture and I change them out with lighter pieces in the Spring. Although, now that our youngest is walking, the table runners will be tucked away for a while!
Those succulents are lovely…might have to see about putting a small pot of those in my kitchen.

Loved all the ideas – and they look easy too! The pillow cover with the bird & bird’s nest on it is beautiful!
