The Generosity Experiment: Day 5
Finding out what happens when you look for opportunities to give. To start reading from Day 1, click here.
I'm sitting at a local bakery and popular lunch spot peeking over a booth at unsuspecting patrons in line to order. I'm sure I look strange, but I'm too excited to care.
What this cute young couple doesn't know is I just told the cashier I wanted to buy gingerbread men (so cute!) for the next 3 people that order. It took some explaining, but she quickly understood that this was "for total strangers." "Wow!" she said. "Ok, I'll do it."
With a big smile, I said, "All I ask is that you tell them 'Merry Christmas.' "
With receipt and fat sugary dough boys in hand, this couple just walked by my table. The sweet glow on their faces matches the one in my heart.
How have you paid it forward?
Update: I'm on my way to pick up two peppermint mochas – the first of the season – one for me and one for a very cold Salvation Army bell ringer. I can't imagine ringing that bell for hours and in such unpleasant conditions (it's been in the 20's here with a wind child in the teens!)
