I am very interested in hearing about the whole process of writing your devotional book. I have so many personal experiences of God revealing Himself to me and teaching me lessons through my trials, I have often thought it would be cool to put together a book of devotions myself.
Dear Holley, reading all the comments above have been really so interesting and all are very good suggestions. Each has great points! Writing Greeting Cards, Devotionals, Gratitude Journals, Childhood Memories, Not About Me, Perfumes and so on. Now what would I want you to write? A good question! Now It's my turn! We all have beautiful ideas in life and we all love to contribute and make suggestions. Now this is my suggestion, What about asking God what He has in store that will benefit the readers and in so doing the readers will all be blessed and the Name of the Lord will be so blessed and glorified!
I am not sure if you or anyone lately has written about WHY we do daylight savings time? I know the rationalle is that the farmers years ago would have a longer harvest time, and more daylight when they needed it. But how can this relate to us now? Or even spiritually, do we really have MORE time in one day?
What's the last thing - story, sight, joke... that made you laugh? Not just ha ha that was funny... but laugh so hard you had to tell somebody else. The kind of funny that you still think about days later... Here's mine: You'd have to live in Florida for a while to understand how cooped up one can feel when it comes to avoiding the heat and humidity. We have very little time to enjoy out doors when it's below 80° and that's usually broken into two day intervals. But this day was the first breathable Florida day we'd had in a long time. I decided to take full advantage of being able to go outside and run some errands. I put on my favorite pair of shorts to go with my new top. I'd just gotten an new hairstyle a few days earlier and was feeling quite chic. My confidence high, I ran into one business and sat for a moment while I chatted with some acquaintances then it was off to the grocery store. As I strolled through the aisles, I noticed that everybody else had the same invigorated feeling as I did. Everybody wore smiles and nodded at me as I passed. I smiled back and even offered a cheerful "How are you today?" from time to time. My shopping finally over, I headed home. I soon received a phone call from my oldest son who lives out of state where he is studying to become a minister. As I made my way to the couch to sit and chat, I couldn't help but think what a nice day it was and how blessed I was. Then I propped my feet up on the coffee table... and gasped!!! I'd forgotten that late the night before, my 4 year old son asked if he could draw a "tattoo" on my leg. And even though I'd just gotten out of the shower, I consented... It washes off after all. Only I forgot to wash it off and I had just run all over town with my 6 inch, BLACK, ballpoint ink "tattoo" all up and down the front of my leg. Some days... all you can do is laugh.
I'm afraid my advice wouldn't give you a lot of ideas. :) I'd say relax, take a brief break, let your fountain refill and then flow out again. Sometimes we just need a little refueling time. Ahh... take a deep breath in this beautiful fall weather. Blessings and ANOINTING, sis. When the river of God flows through us there is so much joy sharing with others what He is speaking to us. Abiding is such an amazing thing. We can't make the fruit happen. Good fruit is a by product of being grafted into the Vine, allowing Him to prune us, and take care of us. Stay connected, absorb His nutrients, because fruit comes in its time. Abide, and the words will come. Praying for His anointing over your life and weekend.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on Sisterhood. You know the kind I mean, that woman you connect with right away, but you don't know why(exactly)? They feel more like a Sister, than a friend...and for me, what's most amazing is, I've never met her in person.
It seems God knows just what and who we need in our life, even before we do.
I have posted before on your blog (rare for me). I posted what JOy is to me. I love my life... that is filled with challenges on most days (cancer, 2 children with autism (1 that has mr), third child with oppositional disorder, add; chronic pain... I would love to ask if you would post on how you have dealt with trauma... with autism, one is on a continual grief cycle (natural per my doctor), ouch... Most days hurt... and hurt deep (I'm not ungrateful or negative), but I think it would be helpful (ok, yes... to me...) some advice on how to get through some days where I live moment to moment....
I have been thinking a lot about what is on peoples minds when come to church, I a greeter at my church, are they coming to be with their friends? are they coming for the donuts & coffee? are they expecting God to intervein in their lives? do they want to talk to God about something? are they coming because they are made to by family and friends? what do they expect when they walk through the doors, what do they bring with them to give to God, some sin they have committed? or are they coming for the great contemp, music? are they coming because God spoke them, that they need to come, to repent and ask forgiveness... and recieve that forgiveness, to give their life to God and want to follow him in every aspect, coming to worship together in one accord, and having that very important fellowship and connection with God and with others...
I go to give my praise to him, for saving me and continuing the journey of forgiveness, and restoration, I love to just get lost in worshiping him, I go to receive all that God has for me...to connect... serve... and grow...I also enjoy watching God at work, if we look very carefully around us, He is moving all over the place, he is so amazing, and I am thankful I have him in my life, and to be Lord of every area of my life...
Hmmmm.
A holiday tradition you have incorporated or want to incorporate into your family.

I'd love to know how you go about writing greeting cards. I'm always fascinated by the work others too - especially if it involves writing.

An idea for cracking your writer's block: How about perfume? When my youngest was learning to talk, she called it "pewferm." 2 Cor 2:14

How about thinking in terms of "maybe it's not about me - maybe I am part of someone else's blessing."

For writing block, try using your non dominant hand to make random marks, shapes letters etc.

I like the holiday tradition idea and also discussing the process of writing/creating greeting cards, both of which were suggested above.

I just read the chapter in your book "Day Twenty Nine: Taking Care of You" last week...
I would love to hear and glean more from you. Could you share a current/recent experience with the idea of -Taking Care of You- .. ?
I also would love to know more about your name, "Holley". Is it somehow related to your Grandpa Hollie?
Fabulous book... I'll be writing a review and recommending it for the holidays! ;)
