Crazy Katie Dog
This is my dog, Katie.
Since I shared some of my beautiful anomalies, I thought I'd share a few of hers as well.
- Katie is an odd mix of breeds—half basset hound and half beagle. I believe the official term for that type of dog is a "Bagel."
- Her nickname is "the Beast." I'm sure it's clear from the photo why that's the case.
- The first year we had Katie, we wrote her off on our taxes because we made a donation to get her.
- She was so bad when she came to live with us that our small group at church prayed for her. It worked.
- Katie's front end has pudgy basset legs and her back end has skinny beagle legs. So if she gets going fast enough, her bottom tucks under and starts getting closer and closer to her chest. It seems as if this would be inconvenient… but she doesn't appear to mind.
- If you say "Bone" Katie will try to do a back flip. If you say "Bath" she will hide in the back room.
- The Beast's number one job is squirrel patrol…and she's seriously been slacking this summer. The other day I walked into the kitchen and saw a squirrel having breakfast in her dog house while Katie happily watched from the porch.
- While the squirrels run wild, Katie has declared war on all June Bugs.
- The only things that get the Beast more worked up than June Bugs are a wind-up chicken and a snowman with springs for legs.
- Katie has taught me that God truly must have a sense of humor.
What's your favorite odd but endearing thing about a pet you've owned?

Our Yorkie, Mason, does a lot of odd things that keep life interesting.
- Like you Holley, alarm clocks just don't cut it. So every night before my wife and I go to sleep we pray that Mason will bark persistently at 5:45 AM until we get out of bed. It is a very serious thing and God answers that prayer!
- Mason is a spinner. She spins when she gets excited because it was one of the first tricks we taught her. She loves spinning, very quickly too. She can spin up to around 20 times before she gets too dizzy to stand.
- She has more friends than I do. She is so social that almost every day we will have a visitor of some sort to our back yard. Frogs, turtles, cats, other dogs, neighbors, etc. Her most odd admirer is a very brave opossum that comes almost every night. It has even visited a couple of times in the middle of the day... and opossums aren't supposed to be out in the day!

Miles, or Mazo as my 1-year-old son calls our yellow lab, always walks backwards through certain rooms and doorways.
Have not figured out the rhyme or reason, yet... But the first place he did it was one of the basement rooms of our first home. So, naturally we concluded there was a dead body buried below!

Our dog Buddy is a Beagle Spaniel mix. As a puppy we found him wandering our country neighborhood and took him in. Buddy's about 8 years old and is the sweetest dog. A few months ago his eye started bulging and the vet found a tumor. They had to remove his left eye because of this.
Our two kids (4 and 2yrs) started calling him Buddy the Pirate.
